AREA COLLEGES John Carroll wins in OT

Blue Streaks top Mount Union in OAC matchup.

ALLIANCE -- A close game throughout needed five extra minutes to decide the outcome.

John Carroll outscored Mount Union 13-9 in overtime to defeat the Purple Raiders 85-81 Wednesday in an Ohio Athletic Conference game.

Brandon Mimes scored 20 points for John Carroll (14-1, 8-1 OAC), and he tied for game-high rebound honors, with nine, with Demetrius Travis.

Michael Grogan and Andrew Salata scored 17 points each for the Blue Streaks.

Mount Union (7-9, 3-6) was led by Kyle Karpinski, who scored 22 points. Brett Hershberger added 12 points; Chris Blakely had 11 points and six rebounds. Brad Gerard scored 10 points and Clay Sanders (Rayen) had six assists.

The score was tied 14 times and there were 20 lead changes.

Wooster 97, Hiram 70

WOOSTER -- Five players scored in double figures for Wooster as coach Steve Moore won his 400th game with the Scots.

James Cooper scored 15 points to lead Wooster (15-1, 6-1 North Coast Athletic Conference), which shot 56.4 percent from the floor (31-of-55).

Carlton Dean was 10-of-19 from the field, including 5-of-7 on 3-pointers, to finish with 28 points for Hiram (3-13, 2-5). A.J. White and T.C. Spencer added 12 points each, and Spencer led the Terriers with five rebounds.

Grove City 71, Waynesburg 62

WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- Ryan Eller scored 26 points on 8-of-12 shooting to lead Grove City.

J.D. Collar added 14 points for the Wolverines (9-7, 2-0 President's Athletic Conference). Phil Bushre had eight rebounds.

Waynesburg (7-9, 1-1) was led by Jeff Nero, who scored 15 points. Josh Parisi added 13 and Beau Wilson scored 10.

Edinboro 83, Slippery Rock 60

EDINBORO, Pa. -- Fifteenth-ranked Edinboro jumped out to a 14-0 lead and never looked back in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division game.

The Fighting Scots (14-2, 1-0) made 12 3-point shots.

The Rock (2-15, 0-2) had three players score in double figures, led by Jason Bratten with 14. Bill Johnson added 13 points and Glenn Reepmeyer scored 10. Dejan Jancic grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds.

Washington & amp; Jefferson 66,Bethany 64

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Jon Koch made two free throws with eight seconds remaining in a PAC game.

James Wallace of Bethany hit a runner to give the Bison (13-3, 1-1 PAC) a 64-62 lead, but Koch tied the score with 18 seconds remaining.

Matt Drahos missed a short jumper on Bethany's next possession, and Koch rebounded and was fouled. Jim Deep's 3-point attempt at the buzzer was long.

Mike Drahos led all players with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Wallace added 12 points, but the Bison shot just 39 percent (17-of-44).

Matt Vorndran led the Presidents (4-12, 1-1) with 15 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Koch had 14 points and six rebounds.

Saint Vincent 85, Geneva 62

LATROBE, Pa. -- Tony Washam scored 23 points and shared team-high rebounding honors with seven to lead Saint Vincent.

Kenny Roberts added 20 points and Ian McCullough finished with 15 points and seven rebounds for Saint Vincent (15-4, 6-0 American Mideast Conference North).

Geneva (11-8, 3-3) was led by Stefan Grundberg's 17 points. Christian Hauser added 11 points and seven rebounds.

Women

WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- Rachel McCoy and Abby Moose led Grove City to a 61-51 victory over Waynesburg in PAC game.

McCoy finished with 16 points; Moose scored 13. Jocelyn Kempema had nine points and 10 rebounds for the Wolverines (8-7, 1-1 PAC).

Rachel Dillon scored 16 points for Waynesburg (8-6, 0-2), and Katie Lewandowski added 10.

Edinboro 63, Slippery Rock 50

EDINBORO -- Stacey Green recorded a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, and Erin Frankovich scored 10 points and Amanda Chojnacki grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds for The Rock.

Slippery Rock is 6-11 overall and 0-2 in the PSAC-West, while Edinboro is 14-2, 1-0.

Allegheny 61, Hiram 42

HIRAM -- Meredith McDonough finished with nine points and 10 rebounds for Allegheny in the North Coast Conference game.

Caitlin Murtagh was the game's high scorer for Allegheny (11-5, 4-4) with 13 points. Courtney Steding added eight points. Meghan Vasilisin grabbed seven rebounds and had three assists.

Cassie Bedard finished with 12 points and nine rebounds for the Terriers (6-9, 1-6).

Mount Union 85, John Carroll 77

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS -- Mount Union earned its first Ohio Conference victory as Ashley Bourdeau scored 22 points and Lauren Friedrich added 21.

Alicia Williams scored 13 points and had seven rebounds for the Purple Raiders (4-12, 1-8). Kyla Hogan had 11 points and nine rebounds.

Shayla Bell scored 18 points for John Carroll (7-8, 4-5).

Saint Vincent 53, Geneva 51

LATROBE, Pa. -- Laura Klimchock led Saint Vincent (5-13, 5-3 AMC North) with 13 points.

Sarah Rockwell and Kristin Myers added 10 points each for Saint Vincent.

Jen Rawding scored 15 points for Geneva (9-7, 4-3). Allyson Clark had 10 points and 13 rebounds.
