Ager's late shooting awakens sluggish Spartans

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Maurice Ager scored 19 of his 22 points in the second half to help No. 19 Michigan State get past Purdue 71-64 Tuesday night.

The Spartans (11-3, 3-1 Big Ten) looked sluggish early, still reeling from their collapse at Wisconsin on Sunday, before riding Ager's sharp shooting late in the game.

Carl Landry scored a career-high 31 points for Purdue (4-11, 0-5) and David Teague had 13.

The Boilermakers are 0-5 in the Big Ten for the first time since the 1962-63 season.

Shannon Brown scored 20 for the Spartans, who have won eight of nine, and Paul Davis added nine points.

Ball St. 86, Bowling Green 62

MUNCIE, Ind. -- Dennis Trammel had 22 points and seven rebounds, and Peyton Stovall made 12-of-15 free throws on his way to 17 points in a Mid-American Conference game.

Ball State (8-5, 3-2) had a big first half, outscoring the Falcons 49-37.

Ball State also scored 23 points off turnovers, compared with seven for the Falcons (10-4, 4-2) .

Also scoring in double digits for Ball State were Julien Mills with 20 points and Terrance Chapman with 15.

Josh Almanson scored 16 points and had 11 rebounds for Bowling Green.
