Cars broken into on school lot

CANFIELD -- Four Canfield High School students had their cars broken into and property stolen from the cars while they were parked at the school, police said Monday.

The thefts occurred in less than two hours last week, according to police department reports.

Nearly $1,000 worth of property, including CD players and clothing, were reported stolen between 8:05 a.m. and 9:45 a.m., according to the reports.

All four cars were locked and no arrests had been made, a police spokeswoman said Monday.

Stolen car recovered

YOUNGSTOWN -- A 1989 Oldsmobile Delta 88 stolen in Austintown in April 2003 was found Sunday stripped in the garage of an abandoned house at 748 Sherwood Ave., police said. The car was missing its wheels and most of the interior, and its windows were smashed. Police said there was evidence in the garage that other cars had been stripped. The report was turned over to the auto theft division.

Woman bilked in scam

WARREN -- A 31-year-old Transylvania S.E. woman is out $1,700 after being the victim of a lottery scam.

The woman recently reported a case of passing bad checks to city police. She had received initial notice of winning a lottery, the type of which was not specified, with an initial check of $1,800 -- which she cashed.

She later mailed $1,700 back to the lottery company and was awaiting receipt of her "final winnings." The $1,700 check was returned as fraudulent, and now she owes that amount to a financial institution.

Theft suspect is caught

WARREN -- Sparkle Market, 2788 W. Market St., told police Saturday that a man took 15 packages of meat from inside the store.

Police said Terry L. Wildman, 38, of Palmyra Road S.W., is charged with theft after being apprehended in the 2800 block of nearby Randolph Street Northwest. He's being held in the Trumbull County Jail, also sought by the Portage County sheriff's office on a fugitive warrant.

Burglary reported

WARREN -- The Lo Cost Store, 1426 Niles Road S.E., reported someone broke into the business over the weekend. Police said James Kennedy, 37, of Patricia Drive, Girard, is charged with breaking and entering and resisting arrest after being found hiding Saturday at the rear of the building.

Carjacking reported

WARREN -- A 26-year-old Garrettsville man told police he was waiting on a traffic light at West Market Street and Southern Boulevard Northwest when two men with handguns ordered him and a passenger out of his car. The 1987 Mercury Grand Marquis was last seen going eastbound on West Market Street.

Gas station robber wanted

BOARDMAN -- Police are investigating the robbery of a gasoline station by a gunman who escaped on foot, officials said.

A man walked into the Shell Tru North station at 7598 Market St. about 6:45 p.m. Sunday and passed a note to a store clerk demanding money, said Boardman Police Capt. Jack Echols. The clerk put cash in a bag and the robber ran away, Nichols said. No vehicle was seen and a police dog was unable to come up with any tracking on the robber, Nichols said.

Anyone with information on the robbery can contact police Sgt. Ray Polombi at (330) 726-4144.
