Some of the responsibilities of an independent, volunteer audit committee that would serve as overseers of Mahoning County's financial reporting process:
Review the annual unaudited financial report submitted to the Ohio Auditor's office.
Periodically review the process used to prepare interim financial information.
Review audit results.
Ensure that audit recommendations are appropriately addressed.
Serve as a liaison between county management and independent auditors.
Some of the information the committee would receive:
Selections of accounting policies.
Sensitive accounting estimates.
Significant audit adjustments.
