YEAR IN REVIEW
Let's keep coverage fair
"The Year in Sports 2004" in (last) Sunday's sports section was a wonderful opportunity to honor and congratulate athletes for outstanding achievements in the past year.
Accolades to all of the acknowledged athletes and teams.
There was, however, one glaring omission -- the young men from McDonald High School who won the state championship in Cross Country.
This team has competed at the state level six years in a row. The results were three first and three second place trophies.
Some of the graduating seniors have high school careers that include four years of competing at the state level.
Yet, as the fall sports season championship results rolled into the Valley, coverage was minimal for this accomplishment.
At the same time, other fall sports were getting not only recognition on the front page in the sports section, but also on the front page of The Vindicator.
Again, nothing against these athletes, teams or schools, but let's play fair in the future and laud state champs from all sports on an equal basis.
