HOW TO SHOOT | Starting out

Published: Sat, January 8, 2005 @ 12:00 a.m.

If you would like to get your son or daughter some experience with a rifle before the next hunting season, one local outdoor club might have just the program for you.

The Hidden Valley Sportsmen's Club, 268 Gilkey Road, West Middlesex, Pa., will be holding youth indoor pellet shoots starting at 7 p.m. Friday.

The shoots are free for youths under 16, and the club has all of the shooting supplies, ear and eye protection, and even some extra pellet guns available.

Before the shoot, at 6 p.m., one of the club's hunting and trapping education instructors will offer a brief class on shooting safety.

The program is open to anyone, and there is no club membership required.

Letting your child practice with a pellet gun is an excellent way to get them comfortable around a firearm and teaches them the principles of safety, targeting, gun handling and sportsmanship.

For more information, call the club at (724) 528-2700.
