YOUNGSTOWN -- The city board of control approved a 10-year, 75-percent tax abatement Thursday for a local company to move and expand its operations in the city.
Superior Chemical Products Co., temporarily located in the Wick Building downtown, will move to the Ohio Works Industrial Park on Ohio Works Drive off U.S. Route 422.
The company had experienced heavy flooding at its former location on Hubbard Road in 2003 and moved to the Wick Building, said T. Sharon Woodberry of the city's economic development office.
The wholesale janitorial supplies company plans to build a 20,000 square-foot building for a warehouse and office space. A total of 4,000 square feet will be used for office space.
Documents provided by the company says Superior's $900,000 investment provides $850,000 for warehouse and office construction and $50,000 for new machinery and equipment.
Charles Ramsey, company president, said Thursday, "We're very excited to move forward and stay in the city of Youngstown."
The company plans to retain 14 employees and create two full-time positions and a part-time job in the first two years of the abatement, which is good through 2015.
The company also plans to add a total of $100,000 in new payroll for the full- and part-time jobs.
