Youngstown man facescharges after accident

YOUNGSTOWN -- Thomas W. Egolf, 40, of South Maryland Avenue was due in municipal court today for arraignment on charges of DUI and failure to control.

Police said Egolf's blood-alcohol concentration registered .302.

He was tested Saturday evening after he crashed his truck into a utility pole on South Portland Avenue, according to police reports.

The legal BAC limit is .08. He told police he had "six beers and some shots."

Reports show that Egolf has two prior DUI convictions.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Reservations are being taken for Cybertour, a Grant Center program in the Computer Center at the Youngstown and Mahoning County Main Library, 305 Wick Ave., at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 12.

Cybertour will present a brief overview of the Foundation Center's Web site.

The tour also will look at the various ways it can be helpful to a grant seeker looking for information on the Internet.

Grant Center programs are free and open to representatives from nonprofit organizations seeking information on funding sources and fund raising.

Grant information applies to nonprofit organizations only.

No information is available for individuals seeking funds.

Reservations can be placed by calling (330) 744-8636, and pressing "2" at the phone prompt for reference information.

Red Cross sponsorsbreakfast for heroes

BOARDMAN -- The Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross will host the Second Annual Heroes of the Mahoning Valley breakfast.

The event will be at 10 a.m. Jan. 15 at Antone's Banquet Centre.

Eight local residents will be honored who have performed extraordinary acts of courage and have demonstrated unusual kindness and unselfish character through their actions that have had a lasting impact on the community, according to the Red Cross.

The event, sponsored by DeBartolo Corp., will be hosted by Scott Schneider, anchor of "WFMJ Today" on Channel 21.

The cost of tickets is $15 person and includes a buffet breakfast and awards ceremony.

Those interested in attending should call the Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross at (330) 726-6063.

Springfield board setsmeeting to reorganize

NEW MIDDLETOWN -- The Springfield Local Board of Education will have its annual reorganization meeting at 7 p.m. Jan. 11 at Springfield Local Intermediate School auditorium.

The school board's regular monthly caucus and business meeting will take place immediately afterward.
