MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Scott Cutley scored 19 points with six rebounds and three assists to help Kent State stop a three-game losing skid with a 79-56 win over Central Michigan on Wednesday night.
The Flashes (17-10, 9-6 Mid-American) took a 30-28 halftime lead then came on strong to open the second half with a 10-2 run. Central Michigan (9-16, 3-13) got within eight points late in the game but the Flashes, who struggled shooting in the first half, connected on about 73 percent of their second-half shots and had an answer for every Central Michigan run.
Ohio 68, E. Michigan 65
ATHENS, Ohio -- Leon Williams scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to help Ohio hold off Eastern Michigan.
Sonny Troutman and Jeremy Fears added 14 points apiece for the Bobcats (15-9, 9-6), who outrebounded Eastern Michigan 41-31.
James Jackson led the Eagles (12-14, 5-10) with 15 points.
Akron 55, Miami (Ohio) 49, OT
AKRON, Ohio -- Romeo Travis scored 20 points and Rob Preston and Rick McFadden hit key 3-pointers in overtime to help Akron defeat Miami of Ohio.
Travis found Preston for a 3 with 4:33 left in overtime to give the Zips a 50-47 lead. Miami cut the lead to 51-49 before McFadden connected from behind the arc with 1:11 remaining.
Chet Mason led the RedHawks (17-7, 11-4) with 23 points and 15 rebounds.
Akron (17-7, 10-5) shot 36 percent from the field but moved within one game of the RedHawks for the East Division lead with three games left.
N. Illinois 72, Bowling Green 61
DEKALB, Ill. -- Cory Sims scored a team-high 17 points to lead Northern Illinois to a victory over Bowling Green.
The Huskies (10-15, 6-10) led for almost the entire game, taking a 32-25 lead into halftime before a home crowd of 2,502 at DeKalb's Convocation Center.
John Reimold had a game-high 22 points for Bowling Green (16-8, 9-6).
Buffalo 68, Marshall 55
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Turner Battle scored 21 points to lead Buffalo.
Roderick Middleton scored all 14 of his points in the second half while Mark Bortz added 12 and a team-high eight rebounds for Buffalo (18-7, 10-6).
A.W. Hamilton's 12 points led three players in double figures for Marshall (5-19, 2-13). Tre Whitted and Mark Patton added 11 apiece in the loss.
