Good for the Valley

Among those attending Monday's presentation on a recycling training center in the Mahoning Valley were Joe Scarnecchia and James Petuch of Youngstown State University's Recycling Program. They provided information on:

An Ohio Department of Natural Resources survey says jobs in the recycling industry average about $37,000 a year.

Technology exists to safely burn garbage and convert it to energy.

The YSU re:CREATE project assists with the local community's solid waste reduction goals, and provides an outlet for the entities that have unwanted, nonhazardous items, and those nonprofits and schools that need them. Scarnecchia added, however, that more recycling industry needs to come to the Mahoning Valley.
