Baby falls from 20-foot-high balcony

1-year-old wandered outside and fell through a railing.

WARREN -- A toddler took a 20-foot fall off an apartment balcony but suffered no life-threatening injuries.

One-year-old Daeveion Burgess was released from Akron Children's Hospital after being flown there Saturday from St. Joseph Health Center.

When Warren police arrived at an apartment at 1170 Roberts Ave. N.W. about 8 p.m., Andrea Hameed, 20, was holding her child, who was screaming but did not lose consciousness.

The child had several lumps on his head, the report states.

Hameed, who lives in an apartment at that address, was visiting another woman's apartment at 1280 Roberts Ave. N.W., the report says. The child wandered out the door and onto the steps, then fell through the railing spindles about 20 feet.

Daeveion was taken first to St. Joseph by Action Ambulance.

A spokesman at the Akron hospital said Monday he had been released.
