BOYS BASKETBALL Sebring powers past East Palestine, 73-48
Also, United won to move into a three-way tie for 2nd place in the TCL.
EAST PALESTINE -- Joe James poured in 27 points to lead Sebring High School to a 73-48 victory over East Palestine High in a Tri-County League boys basketball game Friday night.
The Trojans (16-1, 12-0), ranked second in this week's Division IV poll, led 42-21 at halftime.
Dan Scarpitti added 17 points for Sebring.
Brett Young tossed in 22 points to lead East Palestine (4-14, 4-8).
Southern 44, Lisbon 29
SALINEVILLE -- Josh Diaz scored 22 points and had 11 rebounds, both game highs, to lead the Indians to victory.
Jesse Shilot added seven points, seven rebounds and four assists for Southern (10-8, 6-6 TCL), which trailed 13-12 at halftime. Southern outscored Lisbon 17-4 in the fourth quarter.
Josh Grafton had seven points for the Blue Devils (12-5, 8-4), while Marcus Judy added six points and four assists. Tim McClester and Dom DeFilippo had seven rebounds apiece for Lisbon.
United 72, Leetonia 44
HANOVERTON -- Bubba Taylor scored 22 points as the Golden Eagles moved into a three-way tie for second place in the TCL.
Rob Muhleman and Dan Shaffer added 10 points apiece for United (11-5, 8-4), while Ryan Adams had 10 rebounds.
United trailed 14-12 after one quarter, but outscored the Bears 48-15 over the middle two quarters.
Leetonia (2-15, 0-12) was led by Jon Popio and Corey Creamer with eight points each.
Western Reserve 51, Jackson-Milton 44
NORTH JACKSON -- Dave Ferrando scored 16 points for Western Reserve in an Inter-County League game.
The Blue Devils (7-10, 5-5) trailed 33-27 at halftime, but outscored Jackson-Milton 24-11 in the second half to win.
Chris Truitt added 11 points for Western Reserve.
Jackson-Milton (6-12, 2-8) was led by Josh Rybak, with 17 points. Rybak made four 3-pointers in the game. Andrew Whitmer added 12 points and eight assists for the Bluejays, while Mark Balent had five steals.
Lowellville 62, South Range 57
NORTH LIMA -- The third quarter was decisive for Lowellville in an ICL game.
The Rockets trailed 27-26 at halftime, but outscored South Range 20-11 in the third period for a 46-38 edge before winning.
Mario Nero and John Wilaj scored 14 points each for Lowellville (11-7, 6-4).
Brandan Bierdeman had 13 points to pace the Raiders (5-10, 2-8), while Brian Crawford and David Rach scored 11 apiece. Dan Holloway had four steals.
