TAX HELP YSU Department of Accounting, MYCAP host assistance programs for area residents

People eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit can receive free assistance.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Free tax help is being made available to area residents beginning Saturday at various sites.
Youngstown State University's Department of Accounting is again working with trained business students and professional volunteers to offer the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.
VITA, which has been assisting taxpayers with special needs for many years, offers free assistance to taxpayers, including but not limited to people with disabilities, students and older taxpayers who file Form 1040EZ, Form 1040A or a basic Form 1040 federal tax return. VITA volunteers also alert taxpayers to special credits and deductions for which they may be eligible.
The program begins Saturday. Program staff will meet on the fourth floor in Williamson Hall at these times:
USaturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
UFeb. 12, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
UFeb. 19, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
UMarch 5, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
UMarch 11, 4 to 7 p.m.
UMarch 26, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
UApril 1, 4 to 7 p.m.
U April 9, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Williamson Hall is on Lincoln Avenue across the street from Jones Hall on the YSU campus.
Taxpayers should bring wage and earnings statements (Form W-2) from all employers, interest statements from banks (Forms 1099), a copy of last year's tax return if available, and other relevant information about income and expenses.
Free electronic filing is also available. Walk-ins are welcome. To set up an appointment or to receive additional information, call (330) 941-3084.
Earned Income Tax Credit
The Mahoning-Youngstown Community Action Partnership also is offering free tax help for Mahoning County residents who may be Earned Income Tax Credit eligible.
MYCAP is kicking off the free service from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at its offices at 1010 E. Federal St., Suite 200. No appointments are necessary during the Saturday hours. Future dates for tax assistance will require appointments, which may be made by calling (330) 747-7921, Ext. 1183.
Other MYCAP tax assistance dates will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 19, Feb. 26 and March 12 and from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Feb. 10, Feb. 24, March 3 and March 10.
