Man who threatened police gets 3 years

Published: Fri, February 4, 2005 @ 12:00 a.m.

YOUNGSTOWN -- A city man who threatened police officers shortly after his arrest last year has received a three-year prison term.
Judge R. Scott Krichbaum of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court recently sentenced Robert Duval, 24, of Idora Avenue, to two years in prison for illegal possession of a weapon and another year for improper handling of a firearm in a vehicle. He ruled the sentences be served consecutively.
The judge said Duval was asleep at the wheel of his vehicle with the motor running and a gun on his front seat on Canfield Road on Sept. 22.
Police officers woke him up and, after some questioning and a background check, arrested him. The judge said Duval became belligerent and threatened the cops with bodily harm during the arrest.
Duval was on probation for a cocaine possession conviction out of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court in 2003. As such, he was not permitted to have a gun, authorities said.
