Austintown man gets prison for no child support

YOUNGSTOWN -- An Austintown man has been sent to prison for violating the terms of his probation by failing to pay court-ordered child support.
Judge R. Scott Krichbaum of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court sentenced Dennis Carson, 52, to a total of one year in prison -- two consecutive six-month sentences -- for violating his order to make child support payments for his daughters.
Carson also failed to report to his probation officer as required by the court. He was sentenced Wednesday.
Carson was convicted in September 2003 on two counts of nonsupport of dependents. Judge Krichbaum placed him on probation for five years, with the conditions that he make child support payments beginning in October 2003 of $250 a month for his first daughter and $150 a month for his second daughter.
A check with the prosecutor who oversees the payment of child support showed he did not make a payment in December 2003 and January 2004 for either. Records show his last support payment was made in March 2004.
He was supposed to meet with his probation officer in June 2004, but he did not. A bench warrant was issued for his arrest, and authorities arrested him Saturday at a Salt Springs Road truck stop.
