Americorps to host storytelling event
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown Reads Early AmeriCorps will host a free evening of storytelling and crafts for all area children at the Children's Museum of the Valley, 139 East Boardman St.
The event will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Using Valentine's Day and Presidents Day as themes for the evening, AmeriCorps members will read aloud stories to children. Stories will feature the origination and history of Valentine's Day. There also will be stories on presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
Children will then get to make crafts related to each story: homemade valentines, our country's flag and a mask of Abraham Lincoln.
Youngstown Reads Early is one of several hundred AmeriCorps programs in the United States and provides literacy and reading activities to young children, day-care providers and parents in the Youngstown area. AmeriCorps is a national service organization that works in local communities in the United States to meet critical needs in education and other areas.
