Mahoning Valley defeated the Batavia Muckdogs 8-5.
BATAVIA, N.Y. -- Evandy De Leon had a career night for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers.
Unfortunately for him, there weren't too many witnesses.
Before a sparse crowd of just 969, De Leon went 3-for-5 with a grand slam and six RBIs overall, leading the Scrappers to an 8-5 victory over the Batavia Muckdogs in a New York-Penn League game Monday night.
De Leon's slam in the fifth inning rallied Mahoning Valley (32-34) from a 5-1 deficit. One inning later, his single drove in Trevor Mortensen to give the Scrappers a 7-5 lead.
De Leon also drove in a run in the third inning with an infield single.
Remain five back
The victory, just the third for the Scrappers in their last 10 games, kept them five games behind Auburn in the Pinckney Division standings.
Auburn defeated Jamestown, 8-4, Monday night.
Batavia (28-36) scored single runs in each of the first three innings, mostly with the help of Mahoning Valley miscues.
In the first, Julian Williams led off with a single, stole second, went to third on a flyout by Clay Harris, and scored when Scrappers' starter James Deters uncorked a wild pitch.
Andy MacFarlane's single in the second inning made it 2-0, then in the third, Williams doubled to lead off the inning and scored when Mahoning Valley second baseman Matthew Fornasiere mishandled Brett Dalton's grounder.
The Muckdogs took a 5-1 lead in the fourth on RBI singles by P.J. Antoniato and Dalton.
