The Youngstown State football team announced its captains for the 2005 season Saturday. The four captains, selected by a vote from the team, are seniors Aaron Marshall and Kyle Smith on offense, and Justin Scholes and Brandon Brown on defense. Marshall, a 6-foot-3, 240-pound tight end from Detroit, is a three-year letter winner; Smith, a 6-0, 160-pound wide receiver from San Diego, Calif., is a three-year letterman and two year starter and the team's top returning receiver. Scholes, 6-1, 240-pound defensive end from Mentor, is a two-year letter winner, while Brown, a 6-1, 252-pound defensive end from Youngstown and Ursuline High, has been a regular for three seasons with the Penguins. YSU coach Jon Heacock made the announcement to the team Friday.
