City pastor to throw kids' outreach event

Published: Thu, August 18, 2005 @ 12:00 a.m.

YOUNGSTOWN -- The Rev. Dwight Dumas, senior pastor of Fifth Avenue Community Church, will host "The Crime Scene," an outreach event for kids from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday on the front lawn of the church, 1361 Fifth Ave.

The event is free for young people 10 to 17 from the city and suburbs of Mahoning Valley. The North Side Youngstown event will feature guest artists Grammy-nominated hip-hop group D.O.C. and Big City from Philadelphia. Other local artists, including the youth group Souled Out from Fifth Avenue Community Church, will perform during the evening.

There will be a parked police cruiser with flashing lights, yellow crime scene tape around the perimeter of the building and blasting music. Young people can enjoy free food and prizes and hear the Rev. Mr. Dumas' challenging message.

The Crime Scene has been endorsed by Dr. Wendy Webb, superintendent of Youngstown city schools, Judge Theresa Dellick, the county's juvenile court judge, and other local community officials and leaders. For more information, call (330) 746-6677.
