Smoke bomb does damage to vehicle

Published: Wed, August 17, 2005 @ 12:00 a.m.

YOUNGSTOWN -- A smoke bomb placed under a 2003 Ford Sport Wagon owned by a Cardinal Mooney High School student did damage to the undercarriage, reports show.

The 17-year-old Boardman boy, who was at the school on Erie Street on Monday for football practice, told police that a friend approached and said the vehicle was smoking.

The boy found the bottom shroud of the Ford on fire and melting. When a tow truck moved the vehicle, the fireworks-type smoke bomb was found in a pile of melted plastic.

Police were given the names of two suspects. The case has been assigned to the juvenile division.
