State report cards will be out next week depicting how Ohio's 614 school districts fared in several areas. Numerous gains were made in Youngstown city schools in 2004-05. Among them were:
A 2.8-percent increase in the graduation rate over the last two years ending in June.
A 0.1-percent gain in the overall promotion rate over the same time. Increases were seen in five grades.
An increase of 5.2 percent in the rate of students who were placed in jobs after going through Choffin Career & amp; Technical Center.
A 1.8-percent increase in third-grade reading test results.
Other 2004-05 test gains were fourth-grade reading and citizenship, 5.6 percent and 5.7 percent respectively. Sixth-grade gains were 4.8 percent in reading, 4.1 percent in math, 2.4 percent in citizenship and 7.9 percent in science.
