Howland's 10-year-old team will play for a state championship today.
ELYRIA -- The Canfield 11-year-old baseball team lost to Cambridge 9-3, then won seven straight games to capture the Little League Baseball 11-year old state championship Friday.
Canfield worked its way out of the consolation bracket and had to beat the winners bracket team from Cambridge twice for the crown.
In the title contest, Jared Taylor pitched a complete-game six hitter with six strikeouts to pick up the win.
Michael Wittmann hit a two-run single and Jordan Italiano singled as Canfield scored three times in the first inning.
Eight players went to the plate for Canfield in the second inning and took advantage of five walks to put the game away with a four-run surge.
To get into the championship game, Dominic Patella pitched a four-hitter with four strikeouts to pick up the win. He also hit a double and triple.
The double came in the second inning as Canfield scored three runs, which included singles from Riley Emery, Dominic Yankle and Taylor.
Kyle Brown, Ryan O'Hara and Emery each hit a single as Canfield scored two runs in the third inning.
Patella's triple and a double by Wittmann were key hits as Canfield scored three times in the fifth inning.
Howland 5, North Canton 1
CANTON -- John Mark Weisman pitched a one-hitter with four strikeouts as the Howland All Stars defeated North Canton in the Little League 9-10 year old state tournament.
Howland will play North Canton for the state championship today at 6 p.m.
Jacob Froats hit a two-run for Howland in the second inning. Mitch Bolino hit a double and triple while Danny Marker added three singles.
