YOUNGSTOWN -- A trial is set for Aug. 24 in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court for a city man charged with killing a woman in June.
John L. Stone, also known as Jonathan L. Stone, 34, of West Delason Avenue, was arraigned Tuesday on a charge of murder with a gun specification before Judge Maureen A. Sweeney.
She continued Stone's $250,000 bond and the case has been assigned to Judge R. Scott Krichbaum.
Stone could face 20 years to life imprisonment if convicted of the charge and another three years for using a firearm to commit the crime.
Police said Stone shot Sharon May, 31, of Rosewood Avenue on June 15 in the front yard of Stone's Delason Avenue home. She died the next day at St. Elizabeth Health Center. Police said the bullet entered her right bicep and then her chest cavity.
Police said the suspected murder weapon was a .32-caliber revolver.
Police have said at least three people witnessed the shooting.
May was the city's 14th homicide victim of the year.
