BROOKFIELD New cabaret regulations get through 2nd hearing
A trustee said there have been no problems at Club Pink.
BROOKFIELD -- Township officials have moved one step closer to approving regulations governing massage parlors and adult cabarets.
On Monday, trustees had the second of three public hearings before the regulations are put into place. The final hearing will be next month.
The installation of the rules and regulations comes on the heels of the opening of the township's first adult cabaret -- Club Pink on Masury-Hubbard Road. The business has been open for about four months.
Aiming for consistency
Trustee Gary Lees said there have been no problems with the business since it opened, but trustees want to make sure rules are in place to govern it and any future similar businesses.
"We just want to make things consistent for any type of business like this that moves into our community. We have to protect our citizens, and we want to make sure everything is in order," he said.
The regulations proposed by trustees require a license from the township for all such businesses. Club Pink does not yet have a license, but it can apply after the rules and regulations have been adopted, Lees said.
The rules set hours of operation for the business between 10 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. Officials said the 2:30 a.m. closing time is the same time set for township bars.
The rules and regulations also require background checks for all owners of and employees at the establishments, and require annual inspections. The township has no zoning inspector, therefore annual inspections will be conducted by trustees.
