Group plans dinnerfor Hispanic Relay team
YOUNGSTOWN -- The American Cancer Society's Hispanic Relay for Life Committee is having a dinner for relay team participants at 6 p.m. May 10 at Organizacion Civica y Cultural Hispana Americana, 3660 Shirley Road. Guest speakers are Lady Melfi and Mary Isa Garayua, OCCHA executive director.
Participants are asked to respond by calling the ACS at (330) 533-0546 ext. 114 by Friday. This year's Hispanic Relay for Life will be from 6 p.m. June 24 to 6 p.m. June 25 at Roosevelt Park, Sycamore Drive, Campbell.
Mercer ballot, scannerto face public scrutiny
MERCER, Pa. -- There will be a public test of the optical scan ballot and scanner for the May 17 primary at 1 p.m. May 13 at the Mercer County Board of Elections. The elections board is using the optical scan ballot for the first time after its Unilect touch-screen voting system was banned by Pennsylvania. That decision is being reviewed.
The proof ballot for the primary election can be inspected by candidates for office at the board office in the Mercer County Courthouse during regular office hours, elections officials said.
Geauga County plansnational tourism events
MIDDLEFIELD -- Geauga County Tourism Council will highlight the county's assets starting Saturday as a kickoff for National Tourism Week.
Known for its maple syrup and large Amish population, the county also has art galleries, parks, lodging and dining, and town squares displaying Western Reserve architecture. On May 14, the council will highlight Geauga County and Northern Trumbull County with nine stops on a driving tour. People can call for packets and maps by calling the tourism office, (800) 775-TOUR. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is free, with an old-fashioned barbecue to end the day.
