AKRON SYMPHONY Conductor finalists will take turns
AKRON -- The Akron Symphony Orchestra's five music director finalists will each conduct one of the first five Classic Series concerts of the season. Each finalist's program promises to give symphony audiences a preview of the candidates' individual styles.
The finalists and their concert dates are: Christopher Wilkins, Sept. 17; Jung-Ho Pak, Oct. 15; John Morris Russell, Nov. 12; David Briskin, Jan. 14, 2006; and Paul Polivnick, Feb. 25.
The sixth concert of the series will return symphony director emeritus Louis Lane to the podium March 25, and the final series concert of the season, on April 22, 2006, will feature guest conductor Vance George in an all-Brahms program with the symphony chorus. George is well known as the Grammy Award-winning director of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus and is considered one of America's leading choral conductors.
All Classic Series concerts are preceded by informal talks at 7 p.m. by guest artists or musical experts. Classic Series season tickets range from $78 to $196. Family Series subscriptions are $21 for all three concerts.
