PREP BASEBALL Ginocchi's single in ninth inning leads Girard, 3-2

He had four hits, but his last one beat Brookfield 3-2 in nine innings.

GIRARD -- Ryan Ginocchi's fourth hit was his most important.

The Girard catcher hit a game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth as the Indians rallied from a 2-1 deficit to upend Brookfield 3-2 in a Trumbull Athletic Conference baseball game on Wednesday.

Ginocchi finished with four hits and two RBIs for Girard (5-10, 2-7), while Brett Dutton and Mike Cramer each added two hits.

Ryan Coller had two hits, including a solo home run in the top of the ninth, for Brookfield.

The Warriors also had runners at second and third in the top of the eighth, but hit into a triple play to end the threat.

Mooney 5, Ursuline 3

STRUTHERS -- Mooney pitcher Kyle McCarthy hit an RBI single and scored a run in the fifth inning as the Cardinals batted around, scoring five runs in the frame to beat Ursuline in a Steel Valley Conference game at Cene Park.

McCarthy carried a no-hitter into the seventh before Andy Frasco and Matt Yarab each hit doubles for the Irish (14-4).

McCarthy, who struck out seven, also had two hits and Dan Babyak added a triple for Mooney (14-3).

McDonald 9, Springfield 4

MCDONALD -- McDonald's Corey Vukovic pitched a complete game to beat Springfield for the second time this season, striking out 11 and walking one in an Inter-County League game.

Vukovic (4-0) also had a two-run single to start a six-run fourth inning for the Blue Devils (8-5, 5-3). Tyler Stanley added a three-run homer in the sixth.

Steven Hughes and James Beedle each had two hits.

Joey D'Amato had two hits, including a double, for Springfield (11-6, 5-3).

Late Tuesday

SALEM -- Jarin Heath doubled, tripled, drove in two runs and scored twice for Salem, which beat Alliance 11-8.

Sean McKee, Grant Sevek and Tim Colian each had two hits for the Quakers (10-6, 2-6). Andrew Hendershot homered for Alliance (9-5, 4-3).

South Range 3, East Palestine 1

NORTH LIMA -- Ben Detwiler drove in two runs with a third-inning triple for South Range.

Travis Newman had two hits, including a double, for the Bulldogs (1-14).

Crestwood 6, Southeast 2

RAVENNA -- Jeff Phillips and Jordan Crowder each had two hits, including a double, for Southeast.
