SOFTBALL Ridge blanks Springfield

Canfield freshman Lauren Sulick pitched a perfect game against Niles.
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Mineral Ridge High senior Kaili Gehring pitched a complete-game shutout, despite giving up 10 hits and walking three batters Monday, as the Rams handed Springfield its first Inter-County League loss, 5-0.
Gehring also had two hits, including a double, and Melanie Sparks added a triple and a double for the Rams (8-7, 3-3).
Katie Garland had two hits and Heather Buckner and January Golden had doubles.
Christy Warren, Ashley Fagnano and Danielle DeWitt each had two hits for the Tigers (10-3, 5-1), who stranded seven runners.
McDonald 9, Jackson-Milton 4
MCDONALD -- Lindsay Urban, Kelli Rutushin and Erica Giancola each had three hits for McDonald.
Rutushin (3-3) struck out five to earn the victory for the Blue Devils (7-6, 2-4 ICL). Jackson Milton is 5-7, 2-4.
Western Reserve 3, South Range 0
BERLIN CENTER -- McKenzie Mowery drove in two runs and Quinn McCammon one for the Blue Devils (9-3, 4-2 ICL).
Tarah Young had three hits and McCammon two. Winning pitcher Katie Harmon improved to 5-2.
The Raiders are 3-8, 2-4.
Canfield 9, Niles 0
NILES -- Freshman Lauren Sulick (5-0) fired a perfect game for the Cardinals (12-1, 5-0 Metro Athletic Conference).
Tricia Bettura's three hits drove in three runs and she scored three times. Kerrie Haurin and Danielle Spencer each had two hits.
Poland 10, Alliance 0
POLAND -- Allie Patton (4-0) struck out 11 batters and walked one in the five-inning game for the undefeated Bulldogs (12-0, 5-0 MAC).
Liz Maher's three hits included a home run and double, and drove in three runs. Kari Thompson homered and doubled to drive in two runs.
For Alliance (4-7), Amber Saunders singled in the fourth inning.
Howland 2, Salem 0
HOWLAND -- Winning pitcher Allison Myers (7-3) tossed a two-hitter for the Tigers (8-3, 3-1 MAC).
For Howland, Desiree Sibera's three hits included a triple. Amy Cornicelli had two hits while Erin Gilmour tripled.
Ursuline 9, Chaney 4
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mary Hendricks and winning pitcher Maureen Cearfoss (8-4) each had three singles to lead the Irish (8-5, 4-0 Steel Valley Conference). Hendricks also scored a run and stole two bases.
Ashley Siembieda's two hits drove in two runs. Kolanta Carkido's two hits included a double and brought home two runs.
For Chaney, Gina Guyer had three hits and three RBIs.
Mooney 22, Rayen 0
YOUNGSTOWN -- Gina Brunetti homered twice for the Cardinals (10-4, 4-1 SVC).
Stefanie Grimaldi, Chrissy Cormell and Monique Irwin combined for the five-inning no-hitter.
Rayen is 1-9, 0-3.
Lakeview 4, Brookfield 2
BROOKFIELD -- Brittney Bucco and Jen Baker had two hits each for the Bulldogs (6-4, 2-4 Trumbull Athletic Conference).
For the Warriors (3-9, 2-4), Jessie Shaffer and Stephanie Geer had two hits apiece.

SALINEVILLE -- Chelsea Sheets tripled and doubled for the Eagles (11-3, 6-1 Tri-County League).
Sarah Martin tripled while Mandy Foster and Ashley Bergman doubled.
For Southern (1-8, 0-6), Ashley Bach doubled.

CORTLAND -- In the eighth inning, Alycia Kolat doubled then scored after an overthrow. Amber Jarvis had the other hit for the Mustangs (8-5, 5-1 East Suburban Conference).
Winning pitcher Caitlyn Youngs (6-2) struck out 18 Rockets.
Markie Pozzuto struck out 12 batters for the Rockets (7-3, 4-1).

SOUTHINGTON -- Trisha Rowles doubled to lead Bristol (3-7, 3-3 ESC).
Christie Sindledecker had two RBIs for Southington (1-8, 1-5).
Southeast 8, Garfield 4
GARRETTSVILLE -- Danielle Kaley's three singles drove in two runs for the Pirates (5-4). Melody Hath had two singles.
