AUCTIONS

XPleasant Grove Presbyterian Church, corner of Midlothian and Southern boulevards, will sponsor a spaghetti dinner with a silent and Chinese auction from 4 to 8 p.m. April 23. Cost for dinner is $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 and younger. Drawings for the auction will begin at 8:15 p.m. and will feature autographed merchandise from the Cleveland Cavaliers, tickets to Ohio State University football games, Baltimore Ravens merchandise and other donated merchandise and services totaling $2,000, including gift baskets and certificates to a variety of area businesses. Winners need not be present. Proceeds will benefit mission projects as well as a major construction/repair project at the church. For more information call the church office at (330) 783-0513.

CARD PARTIES

XSt. Mary's Altar and Rosary Society is sponsoring a card party from 6 to 9 p.m. April 19 at the church hall, corner of Seneca and High streets, Warren. The event will include door prizes, salad bar and table prizes. Admission is $5.

DONATIONS

XFriends of Boardman Library will accept donations of gently used books, hardbacks and paperbacks, children's books, magazine, tapes and CDs from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 7 and 21, and every first and third Saturday afterward at those times until further notice.

FASHION SHOWS

X"An Evening for Women" champagne dinner, fashion show and expo will be held April 20 at Tiffany Manor by AWARE Inc. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $40; call (724) 981-0551. Proceeds benefit AWARE Mercer County Center Against Domestic and Sexual Violence and the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation.

FUND-RAISERS

XThe 2005 Mahoning Valley MS Walk, sponsored by Giant Eagle and Serono/Pfizer, will be held Saturdayat Canfield Fairgrounds, 7265 Columbiana-Canfield Road, Canfield. Entrance to the grounds is through Gate 5, across from the Ohio State Highway Patrol on state Route 46. Check-in begins at 9 a.m. Walkers can choose from an 8 1/2- or five-mile walk. Participants collect pledges to fund both local quality-of-life programs helping more than 1,000 Mahoning Valley residents living with multiple sclerosis and MS-related medical research performed in Ohio.

XTickets are available for "Continuing the Dream," the sixth annual wine-tasting and auction to benefit Beatitude House to be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. May 6 at the Byzantine Center at the Grove. The event will feature an assortment of hors d'oeuvres and dinner choices, and representatives from area wine distributors will be on hand to offer guests an array of premium wines. Imported beers will also be available for tasting. A variety of items will be auctioned, including two tickets to sit in the private loge of Ohio State University football coach Jim Tressel with Ellen Tressel, the coach's wife, during a game. Other items include gift certificates, jewelry and vacation getaways. Auctioneer George Roman will start the bidding at 8 p.m. The John Reese Project will provide musical entertainment. XPhi Sigma Chi Sorority and Omicron Xi Fraternity at Grove City College will sponsor the 20th annual Sunset Sprint April 27. The 5K race, which is sanctioned by USA Track and Field, begins at 7 p.m. on South Broad Street, downtown Grove City. Prizes will be awarded for the top runners in each age group. Runner registration is accepted the day of the race until 10 minutes before starting time. Proceeds benefit United Community Hospital's Lifeline Service, which provides personal help buttons for seniors who live alone and may need help during an emergency or other times. Sponsors are needed; any amount is welcome, but donors of $100 or more will get their company name printed on the race T-shirt. X"Workout for a Cure," an aerobic and strength-training event, will be sponsored from noon to 3 p.m. Sundayby Ruth's Robics and Dance Co., 5626 South Ave., Boardman, to help raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Anyone is welcome to participate. The day will be split into three categories of fitness: a low-impact aerobic class at noon, a step aerobic class at 1 p.m. and a body strengthening class at 2. Food and refreshments will be provided to all participants, who are encouraged to find sponsors. All checks should be made payable to the hospital. X"Golf for a Cure," an event to benefit the American Cancer Society, will take place May 16 at Salem Hills Golf & amp; Country Club. The first 20 golfers will be given raffle tickets for a two-year lease on a GM vehicle. The event is sponsored by HOT-101 and Stadium GM. For more information or registration, call (330) 332-4683.

NIGHTS AT THE RACES

XSt. Nicholas School will sponsor a Night at the Races (with a Touch of Vegas) Saturday in the parish center, 762 Fifth St., Struthers. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., races begin at 7. Admission is free. The event will include door prizes, black jack and two-card draw. Refreshments will be available. Adults 21 and older are invited. Proceeds benefit the school. SALES

XCentral Christian Church, 2051 E. Market St., Warren, will have its spring flea market from 9 to 4 p.m. Saturday. There will be 11 individuals and groups participating, including a table to benefit Relay for Life. The event will include a bake sale, and soup and sandwiches will be available for lunch. The Christian Men's Fellowship will be making barbecued pork loin, ribs and chicken for carryout. Proceeds from the Christian Education table will help cover the cost of Vacation Bible School in June.

XFirst United Methodist Church, 3711 Main St., Mineral Ridge, will have a church-wide trash to treasure garage sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Lunch will be available. All proceeds will go to Relay for Life. To donate gently used items, call the church at (330) 652-9554.

XThe staff of Meridian Arms Living Center is planning a benefit raffle/car wash/ bake sale/lunch sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at the facility, 650 S. Meridian Road, Youngstown. Proceeds will go to one of their employees whose husband recently suffered a stroke and is unable to work.

XSt. Elizabeth Health Center Auxiliary will have a shoe and uniform sale from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 19 and 20 in the main lobby at the health center.

XSt. James Episcopal Church, 7640 Glenwood Ave., Boardman, will have a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday.Good clothing, toys, household items and books will be offered. Friday is half-price day.

XA 15-family garage sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Gorant Candies plant parking lot, corner of Market Street and McClurg Road, Boardman. Proceeds will benefit the Team Tarantino Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society.

XYork Drexler VFW Post 5532 at 575 S. County Line Road, Washingtonville, will have a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Anyone with items to donate may do so Wednesday or Thursday. Call the post for drop-off times at (330) 482-0499.
