Pitcher powers Newton Falls

Lindsey McCartney pitched a two-hitter and had two hits in a 5-0 win over Liberty.

LIBERTY -- Lindsey McCartney tossed a two-hit shutout and contributed two singles Friday to lead the Newton Falls High School softball team to a 5-0 victory over Liberty High.

McCartney struck out 14 batters and walked one.

Casee Piquet added three singles and an RBI for the Tigers (6-1, 2-0 Trumbull Athletic Conference).

Marisa Matas, Emily Montgomery and Jessica Connell also had a pair of hits.

For Liberty (0-3, 0-2), Michelle Dykes and Chana Marsco hit singles.

Champion 9, Hubbard 0

HUBBARD -- Emily Hayes went 4-for-4 and scored four runs and Jaclyn Carpenter added three hits for Champion (7-0, 2-0) in a TAC game.

Kasey Karr struck out 12 and did not walk a batter while pitching a four-hit shutout.

Girard 7, Brookfield 1

GIRARD -- Aly Moliterno had three hits, while Kelly Bondor and Erica Leskovec each had two hits, including a triple, for Girard (1-5) in a TAC game.

Sarah Britt also tripled and Kelsea Tondo-Kramer (1-3) pitched a complete game, striking out 11.

Jessie Henson had two hits and an RBI for Brookfield (0-4).

Mooney 9, Mineral Ridge 2

YOUNGSTOWN -- Stefanie Grimaldi and Chrissy Cormell combined to toss a two-hitter in the victory for the Cardinals (3-3).

Dana Palazzo had three hits, two runs and two RBIs. Caitlyn Bernat, Mimi Vitello, Gina Fabian, Gina Brunetti and Mara Palombaro had two hits apiece.

For the Rams (4-2), Melanie Sparks had an RBI double and Katie Garland singled.

Canfield 15, Akron East 1

CANFIELD -- Kerrie Haurin had three hits and three RBIs in the victory for the Cardinals (7-1).

Stephanie Zunic had two hits while Tricia Bettura had a bases-loaded triple.

Also for Canfield, Ashley Bleggi (2-1) was the winning pitcher, Courtney Porter tripled and Bryanne Halfhill doubled.

Lowellville 12, Chaney 5

LOWELLVILLE -- Julie Peterson had five hits and her twin sister Kathy hit a two-run home run for the Rockets (3-3).

Veronica Cosby's two hits included a triple while Casey Wilson's two singles drove home two runs. Carla Blinsky and Samantha DeBlasio doubled.

For Chaney, Kristen Blelik doubled.

McDonald 13, Lordstown 5

McDONALD -- Courtney Vitullo tripled and doubled and drove in five runs for the Blue Devils (2-4).

Lauren Walls had two hits and two RBIs while Kayla Puntel had two singles.

Pymatuning Valley 3, South Range 0

BEAVER TOWNSHIP -- Skye Walley (1-4) had two hits and took the loss for the Raiders (1-4). Heather Stacy and Autumn Carter had South Range's other hits.
