Fraternity to host Relay for Life benefit

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Westminster College fraternity Alpha Sigma Phi is sponsoring its eighth annual Relay for Life for cancer research from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. April 16 at the Harold Burry Track.
Thirty-three teams had signed up by March 31; last year, 48 teams competed. Team reservations and sponsors will be accepted until the day of the event.
The fraternity started the event to honor the memory of Dr. Peter Macky, a professor who died of cancer eight years ago. Nearly $150,000 has been raised over the past seven years.
Teams of eight to 15 people take turns walking or running around the track, relay-style, for 12 straight hours. Each team member is asked to raise donations to support the American Cancer Society's services, programs and research. The event features a cancer survivor walk at noon, a luminary ceremony at 9 p.m. and concludes with fireworks at 10 p.m.
