Tibetan healing arts tour to stop in Girard
GIRARD -- The Sacred Earth and Healing Arts of Tibet, a national tour of representatives from the Gaden Shartse Monastic College in India, will make its only stop in the Mahoning and Shenango areas at Girard's Unity Church Centre on Friday and April 9 and 10.
According to the tour's Web site, www.gadenshartsetour.org, the group's purpose is to raise funds for the college's facility, instructors and students. The college is known for providing reputable instruction in Buddhist and Tibetan studies.
The tour offers people in the Youngstown area an opportunity to understand a belief system they rarely see, said Ric Schumacher, the Unity Church Centre minister.
The monks' local visit will begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday with music and the lecture "The Transformational Effects of Spiritual Practice" presented by reincarnated Lama Lobsang Jinpa Rinpoche. On April 9, the group will hold the "Vajravidharan Healing Ritual" from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The Lama will conclude the local visit by giving a lecture on "The Four Noble Truths" during the center's service Sunday at 10:30 a.m. April 10.
Throughout the weekend, visitors also may make appointments for the monks to perform private healing rituals. For more information, contact the Centre at (330) 539-0122.
