SOFTBALL Canfield wins S.C. tourney; Boardman is 3rd

Mooney posted its first win while South Range won a league game.
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Freshman Lauren Sulick tossed a two-hitter as the Canfield High softball team defeated Socastee, 7-0, on Friday to win the Socastee Lady Braves Tournament.
Sophomore Jena Ervin doubled to drive in a run and scored twice. Lauren McGivern two hits for Canfield (4-1).
With a slugging percentage above .500, senior shortstop Danielle Spencer was named tournament MVP.
Canfield's junior-varsity team won the JV bracket.
Boardman 11, Massillon 0
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The Spartans (4-1) placed third in the Socastee Lady Braves tournament as Ashley DeDomenico (3-1) pitched a two-hitter and struck out five.
Danielle Burin hit a triple, double and drove in three runs.
Mallory Hay hit two double and two singles, and drove in three runs. Sarah Hays hit a pair of singles, drove in two runs and scored three times.
Sarah Albani hit a double and single, and drove in two runs.
Mooney 13, Warren Harding 3
WARREN -- Winning pitcher Stefanie Grimaldi contributed three hits and drove in three runs.
Mara Palombaro, Mimi Vitello and Gina Fabian had two hits each in Mooney's (1-2) first victory.
The Raiders dropped to 0-3.
South Range 2, McDonald 1
BEAVER TOWNSHIP -- Heather Stacy brought home the game-winning run as the Raiders (1-1, 1-0 Inter-County League) won in nine innings.
Skye Walley (1-1) tossed a five-hitter Lauren Walls doubled for the Blue Devils (1-1, 0-1).
Mathews 13, Southington 1
SOUTHINGTON -- Caitlyn Youngs pitched a one-hitter and doubled to lead the Mustangs (2-1, 1-0) to their first East Suburban Conference win.
Amber Jarvis tripled and McKenzie Brown doubled for Mathews.
The Wildcats are (0-1, 0-1).
