HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL DeChellis' triples lead Range

Springfield and Western Reserve posted non-league victories.

STRUTHERS -- Joe Marino's double and Tom DeChellis' triple triggered a three-run sixth inning rally Friday as the South Range baseball team defeated McDonald, 9-7.

Marino finished with three hits including two doubles, three runs scored and five RBIs while DeChellis had two triples and two RBIs for the Raiders (1-0, 1-0 Inter-County League).

Josh Less had two hits and Ben Detwiler relieved Jeff Pilcher in the fourth inning to earn the win.

For the Blue Devils (1-1, 0-1), Tom John had three hits and three RBIs while Corey Vukovic and Jonathan Camuso each had two hits and two RBIs.

Springfield 10,Jackson-Milton 0

NEW MIDDLETOWN -- John Houser, Mark Mariner and Zack DeJane teamed up to toss a one-hitter for the Tigers (4-0, 1-0 ICL).

Andrew Sarich doubled in two runs and Chris Martin had a RBI triple.

Zack Kosa tripled for the Bluejays' (1-3, 0-1) hit.

Western Reserve 14, Rayen 4Western Reserve 18, Rayen 0

BERLIN CENTER -- The Blue Devils fell behind 2-0 in the first inning of the first game of a doubleheader, but scored at least one every inning after that.

Vince Barbone hit a pair of singles, drove in a run, scored once and stole two bases for the Blue Devils. Nick Lude drove in three runs.

In the second contest, Western Reserve's Josh Lattanzi, a senior in his first varsity start, pitched a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts and one walk.

The Blue Devils sent 14 batters to the plate in the first inning with John Potterfield hitting a two-run triple as Western Reserve took a 10-0 lead and added six more runs in the second.

Billy Speece and Dave Ferranzo each hit a pair of singles to pace the Blue Devils.

Anthony West singled for the Tigers (0-2) in the fourth inning.

Hubbard 3, Chaney 1

HUBBARD -- Chaney (0-4) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Hubbard scored two runs in the fourth.

Rob Sullivan hit two singles, drove in a run and scored once for the Eagles (1-0).

Howland 5, Akron Coventry 1

AKRON -- Adam Solich struck out 11 batters and walked none to lead the Tigers (1-0).

Tony Pozega, Jarred Bartholomew, Manoli Pahoulis and Ben Leece had two hits each for Howland. Pahoulis drove in two runs.

Salem 10, Lisbon 0

SALEM -- Jarin Heath homered, scored two runs and drove in two for the Quakers (2-0). Ryan McCallister (1-0) fired a two-hitter.

Mark Kolich singled to drive in two runs.

Grant Sevek, Cody Dillon and Ben Miller has Salem's other hits.

For the Blue Devils (1-1), Travis Jackson and Lucas Rambo had hits. Aaron Cosma (0-1) was the starting pitcher.

Niles 13, Girard 3

NILES -- The Red Dragons scored runs in every inning.

Robbie Porter hit two singles and drove in four runs for Niles. Mike Ruscitti also hit a pair of singles. Anthony Ragozine (1-0) scattered three hits through five innings to pick up the win.

Canton Central Catholic 8,

Warren Harding 0

CANTON -- Brad Competti homered and doubled for Central Catholic (1-0). He also pitched five innings to earn his first victory.

For Harding (0-3), Deandre Ware, Andy Dobson and Pete Zock had hits.

West Branch 7, United 3

HANOVERTON -- The Warriors fell behind on a three-run home run by the Golden Eagles' (1-1) Tyler Manful in the first inning.

West Branch (3-0) took the lead by scoring four runs in the fifth inning. The Warriors iced the contest when Andy Todor hit a two-run home run in the seventh.

Marc Possage (1-0) worked five innings, allowed three hits and struck out 11 to pick up the win. Matt Catania, in relief, worked two hitless innings for a save.
