Take the state Route 250 exit off of I-71 and follow west into downtown Ashland. Turn right (north) onto Parkside Drive to reach the park.Champion scouting report: The Golden Flashes, coached by Cheryl Weaver, are in the state tournament for the first time since 1994 when they won the Div. II championship, 5-0 over LaGrange Keystone. Champion was coached then by Gene Cheredar. The program also enjoyed Class AA state titles in 1980 and 1978. In the Massillon regional, the Golden Flashes defeated Navarre Fairless 5-0 and Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy 5-4 in eight innings. Champion won the Orwell district by defeating Badger, 3-2; Garfield, 3-0; second-seeded Newton Falls, 1-0; and top-seeded Ursuline, 8-2. Leading the attack is a sophomore pitcher, Kasey Karr, who has saved some of her best performances for the tournament. She pitched a perfect game against Newton Falls and a two-hitter against Fairless. She has five shutouts this season. The Golden Flashes' probable starting lineup is: Jaclyn Carpenter, third base, sophomore; Karr, pitcher, sophomore; Jessica Carpenter, shortstop, senior; Emily Hayes, second base, sophomore; Lauren Seafert, first base, senior; Jessica Bova, left field, junior; Alyshia Brink, catcher, junior; Tara Shope, right field, senior; Meghan Packman, center field, senior.Monroe Central scouting report: This marks the top-ranked Seminoles' first appearance in the state tournament. En route to Ashland, they defeated Loudonville (3-0) and Sycamore Mohawk (3-0) in the regional and captured the Cambridge district with wins over Zanesville West Muskingum (23-0), Lore City Buckeye Trail (16-1), Steubenville Catholic Central (3-2) and Barnesville (3-0).
