MID-AMERICAN CONFERENCE Kent State jolts Marshall for 19th
The Golden Flashes used a 17-0 run for an 86-65 triumph.
KENT -- John Edwards scored 18 points and Jason Edwin hit a jumper in the second half that started a 17-0 run, in Kent State's 86-65 victory over Marshall Wednesday night.
Edwards made 8-for-12 shots and had 10 rebounds for the Golden Flashes (19-3, 13-1 Mid-American Conference).
Marshall (9-13, 6-8) opened the second half by hitting three 3-pointers to pull to within 45-42, but Edwin's shot started the run with 17:08 remaining. Clif Brown finished it with a layup with 11:39 to go that put the Golden Flashes ahead 62-42.
DeAndre Haynes scored 11 points for Kent State. Edwin and Scott Cutley scored 10 apiece.
Akron 87, Cent. Michigan 66
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Derrick Tarver scored 30 points as Akron (12-11, 6-9 MAC) grabbed a 48-34 halftime lead and pushed their lead to as many as 20 points early in the second half. Romeo Travis scored 15 points for the Zips while Johnny Hollingsworth scored 12.
Miami (Ohio) 64, Ohio 63, OT
OXFORD -- Miami's Chet Mason had a tip-in with four seconds remaining. A pair of free throws by Ohio's Thomas Stephens with 26 seconds remaining in regulation capped a 10-0 run and sent the game to overtime. Juby Johnson and Danny Horace each had 19 points for Miami.
Bowling Green 69, N. Illinois 52
DEKALB, Ill. -- Josh Almanson scored 18 points and John Reimold (Kennedy Catholic) added 11 for Bowling Green (11-13, 7-7 MAC). Cory Eyink and Ron Lewis each scored 11 points for the Falcons. Northern Illinois (7-17, 2-12) was led by Rome Sanders with 12 points and Perry Smith with 10.
W. Michigan 89, Toledo 62
KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Mike Williams scored a game-high 30 points, one shy of his career record, and had a game-high 11 rebounds to lead Western Michigan (19-3, 12-2 MAC). Anthony Kann added 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Broncos. Florentino Valencia led Toledo (16-7, 10-5) with 14 points.
Buffalo 83, E. Michigan 64
YPSILANTI, Mich. -- Turner Battle scored 24 points to lead five Buffalo players in double figures. Jason Bird scored 15 points, Mark Bortz had 14 points and eight rebounds, Daniel Gilbert had 13 points and seven rebounds and Mario Jordan added 11 points and eight rebounds for Buffalo.
