Bands battle to the end
VIENNA -- A winner will be chosen tonight in the Summer Battle of the Bands contest at The Thunderplex on state Route 193.
The showdown began in late July with 40 contestants. The final four bands will compete between 7 and 11 p.m. They are:
UMoney For Gyros, a blues band from Cleveland
UOrca, a progressive metal band from Warren
UHighball, a rock and roll band, also from Cleveland
UThe Set-Ups, an Akron band that plays ska music
Prizes include $1,000 cash and time in a recording studio.

Group represents revue
BOARDMAN -- Move Over Broadway Productions, a community theater group, will give free performances of its Vaudeville Revue at 6:30 tonight and at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Maag Outdoor Arts Theater at Boardman Township Park, 375 Boardman-Poland Road. Seating is on the lawn.
CANTON -- "The World is Watching" will be the theme of the third annual film festival at Canton Palace Theatre, 605 Market Ave., North. The festival will begin at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 9 with a complimentary wine and cheese reception.
Movies to be shown at 7:30 p.m. each evening are as follows: "Battle of Algiers," not rated, subtitled, Sept. 9; "Super Size Me," documentary, Sept. 10; "Before Sunset," drama, Sept. 11; "Shaolin Soccer," in Cantonese with subtitles, Sept. 12. Admission is $5. Call (330) 454-8172.
