NEW YORK-PENN LEAGUE Butia, Reyes pace Scrappers' victory

Mahoning Valley beat Auburn for its ninth win in 10 games.
AUBURN, N.Y. -- Good hitting and good pitching got the Mahoning Valley Scrappers off and running 10 games ago.
That formula worked again for the Scrappers as they posted a 14-5 victory over the Auburn Doubledays in a New York-Penn League game Wednesday at Falcon Park.
The Scrappers extended their winning streak to five in a row and have won nine of their last 10 games.
Balanced attack
Everyone in the Mahoning Valley lineup had at least a hit and scored once.
Mike Butia got the Scrappers' (31-28) 16-hit attack underway when he hit a two-out, two-run home run in the first inning to keep Mahoning Valley in pursuit of a wild card berth.
Auburn (41-14), which still has the best record in the New York-Penn League, leads the Pinckney Division by 12 games, with the Scrappers in second place.
Mahoning Valley put the game out of reach as it scored seven runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Argenis Reyes and Butia each hit a home run for the Scrappers. Butia also doubled and had two RBIs. Reyes went 3-for-5, which also included a double and single.
Aaron Laffey (1-1) worked six innings, allowed only five hits and three runs, with two strikeouts to pick up his first win of the season.
