Hall of Fame to revitalize oldies with Sha Na Na performance
NILES -- The Sha Na Na rock 'n' roll band didn't get a chance to play a proposed benefit concert for the Vocal Group Hall of Fame & amp; Museum in May, but the group will do it Saturday.
The benefit show will be held at McMenamy's at 325 Youngstown-Warren Road, Niles.
The group had hoped to perform at Sharon High School's Tiger Stadium following the close of the American Sings! festival held there in May.
The show would have used the festival stage, lighting and sound system.
However, America Sings!, a nonprofit music festival and special event promoter, decided the concert wouldn't fit in with its format, pointing out that a ticketed event is not in keeping with the America Sings! tradition of offering shows for free.
The concert has been rescheduled and will be held at McMenamy's, said Bob Crosby, president and chief executive officer of the Vocal Group Hall of Fame Foundation.
Tickets are $25 plus a $3 service fee and are available at McMenamy's, The Vocal Group Hall of Fame at 98 E. State St. or at Ticketmaster.
Doors open at 6 p.m., and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame video will play at 7 p.m.
Sha Na Na takes the stage at 8 p.m.
Special guests and inductees to the Vocal Group Hall of Fame, including Fred Johnson of The Marcels and "Blue Moon" fame, will be added to the show. Sha Na Na also will visit the Hall of Fame at 1 p.m. that day to sign autographs and meet and greet their fans. Admission to the hall is free, but a donation of $5 per adult is suggested.
