KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Landon Donovan scored both goals in San Jose's victory. Donovan opened the scoring in the 27th minute when he headed a pass from Brian Mullan past Wizards' goalie Tony Meola for a 1-0 lead. In the 59th minute, Donovan outraced defender Shavar Thomas to a ball in the penalty area and again beat Meola for his sixth goal of the season. Donovan has six goals in his last three games at Arrowhead Stadium.
The Earthquakes (7-7-6, 27 points) have lost just once in their past seven games, while the Wizards (9-6-5, 32 points) failed to overtake Los Angeles for the Western Conference lead.
Pat Onstad stopped three shots in the shutout, Kansas City's first scoreless game since May 30.
Beasley scores in debut
AMSTERDAM, Netherlands -- American midfielder DaMarcus Beasley scored Saturday in his Dutch League debut, a 5-2 win for PSV Eindhoven over RBC Roosendaal in its opener. Beasley, a regular on the U.S. national team, was acquired on July 22 from Major League Soccer, where the 22-year-old played with the Chicago Fire. Beasley got PSV's final goal on a solo effort in the 76th minute. He dribbled across the top of the penalty area, beat two defenders, then sent a slow shot under falling goalkeeper Maikel Aerts.
