Installation service
SHARON, PA. -- There will be an installation service at 6 p.m. Sunday at the National Association of the Church of God Campgrounds, Shenango Township, for the Rev. Charles W. Johnson Jr., pastor of Cedar Avenue Church of God, Sharon. The Rev. Dr. Robert Culp, Pastor of First Church of God-Toledo and formerly of the Shenango Valley, will be the presiding minister. The Rev. Dr. Timothy J. Clark, Pastor of First Church of God-Columbus, will give the installation message. The Columbus church's choir also will perform. A reception will follow in the Mary B. Terrell Dining Hall at the campground. Educated in Columbus, the Rev. Mr. Johnson graduated from Gospel Lighthouse School of Ministry with a certificate in Ministry Studies, and he earned an associate degree from Vision Bible College and Seminary. He was one of six key leaders with the 5,000-member First Church of God-Columbus. He also served three years as president of Urban Youth Pastors in Columbus.
Guest speakers scheduled
BOARDMAN -- The Revs. Gerri and Ron Vincent will be guest speakers at the Youngstown Flame Fellowship at 7 p.m., Monday at the Elton Beard Cabin in Boardman Park.
Union Baptist speaker
YOUNGSTOWN -- Union Baptist Church, 528 Lincoln Ave., will have guest speaker Pastor T.J. Thomas of Toledo at its 10:45 a.m. service Sunday. The theme will be "Men of Valor."
Tripps to minister
LEAVITTSBURG -- LaVerne and Edith Tripp will minister at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Leavittsburg Church of God, 610 Leavittsburg Road. While a member of the Blue Ridge Quartet, LaVerne wrote and recorded three consecutive number one songs: "I Know," "That Day Is Here" and "After Calvary." He has been nominated eight times for the Dove Award. In 29 years of ministry, LaVerne has traveled around the world and built Bible schools, churches and children's homes. LaVerne just released his 76th full-length recording, entitled "Nothing's Gonna Keep Me Down," which contains his new hit singles, "Nothing's Gonna Keep Me Down" and "Problems At Home," along with nine other songs. LaVerne and his wife, Edith, travel weekly to churches sharing their songs and message.
Outdoor worship
CANFIELD -- St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 3755 S. Raccoon Road, will hold its Third Annual Outdoor Worship Celebration and Brunch at 9 a.m. Aug. 22 on the south lawn of the church. Community outreach day
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Salvation Army, 1501 Glenwood Ave., will hold its Annual Community Outreach Day, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 11. There will be gospel music and singing, free literature, free food and games. To participate, call (330) 746-8403.
St. Rocco's feast day
LIBERTY -- St. Rocco's Church, 239 Trumbull Ave., will have its Patronal Feast Day on Sunday with Mass at 10 a.m. and an outdoor procession with pipes & amp; drums, statue of St. Rocco, flags and banners. There will be a dinner featuring homemade cavatelli and spaghetti, homemade sausage and peppers, pizza and baked goods from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children. Children age 5 and under will be admitted free. There will be live music all day with John Gabriele, a Chinese auction, a drawing and a 50/50 raffle. A Mass also honoring St. Rocco is set for noon Monday.
Anniversary service
EAST PALESTINE -- Grace Lutheran Church, Grant and Walnut Streets, will celebrate the 93rd anniversary of the congregation at the 10:45 a.m. worship service Sunday. The speaker will be the Rev. Marcus Miller, bishop of the Northeastern Ohio Synod, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The liturgy used will be what was used in the congregation from 1930 to 1960.
Financial literacy training
YOUNGSTOWN -- The North Side Citizens' Coalition and The Salvation Army present Financial Literacy Training, from 10 a.m. to noon, Sept. 7-9 at the Salvation Army, 1501 Glenwood Ave. Make reservations at (330) 746-8403.
