Paper from bank shows no chemicals
BOARDMAN -- An Ohio Department of Health lab in Columbus has found no chemical agents in paper from the night deposit box at First National Bank, 7025 Market St., where two female employees developed itching and rashes Tuesday morning.
The employees developed the symptoms after opening envelopes from the overnight deposit, and they were decontaminated by the Mahoning County Hazmat team at the scene before being taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center and released Tuesday afternoon.
Fire Chief Jim Dorman said he was informed of the chemical test results Thursday afternoon by a Mahoning County Health Department official. Preliminary reports had earlier found it wasn't a biological agent that caused the employees' symptoms.
Bank officials plan to have the building thoroughly cleaned as a precaution and to reopen the bank "very soon," Dorman said. "We will continue attempts to discover what caused this reaction," in the bank employees, Dorman said.
