MVSD seeks bids for filtration system work

MINERAL RIDGE -- Companies willing to perform work on the Mahoning Valley Sanitary District's filtration system have until Sept. 6 to bid on the project.
On Wednesday MVSD directors authorized CT Consultants Inc., based in Willoughby, to begin the bidding process, said Chief Engineer Tom Holloway. Bids for the project will be opened Sept. 7.
Holloway said the project involves five separate contracts to cover everything from repairing the building that houses the filters, to upgrading the heating and air conditioning systems, to upgrading, repairing and replacing the filters and their electrical control systems.
All of the construction is estimated to run about $6.8 million, Holloway said, which is on top of the roughly $400,000 spent on design work for the project. MVSD officials recently agreed to apply for a state loan to cover most of the costs.
The improvements and upgrades to the MVSD filters originally started in the mid-1990s, but all work was suspended when the state conducted a special audit of the district.
