SANDLOT BASEBALL Bud's/Pal Joey's knocked out by Brunswick, 10-3
YOUNGSTOWN -- Bud's/Pal Joey's was eliminated by unbeaten Brunswick 10-3 Saturday night in the National Amateur Baseball Federation Major (19-older) regional tournament at Pemberton-Donnell Park.
Bud's/Pal Joey's took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on Joe Marzano's RBI single.
Brunswick, which takes on Cleveland TCM at noon today at Pemberton for the championship, came right back with two runs in the bottom of the second.
After Bud's cut the deficit to 4-3, Brunswick put the game out of reach as it scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings.
A six-run seventh inning kept Bud's/Pal Joey's in contention earlier in the day as it eliminated Pizza Oven 6-5.
Marzano, who had a pair of singles, hit a sacrifice fly that drove in Jason Jablonski with the deciding run. Jablonski had doubled home two runs.
Winning pitcher Matt Raiti, who worked seven innings and scattered eight hits with four strikeouts, picked up the win.
Marzano, Raiti and Frank Santore each had two hits.
FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Steve Schoenfeld pitched a two-hitter as Canfield posted a 13-2 victory over Kentucky in the boys 13-14 Junior League (Little League) regional tournament Saturday.
Nate Wilson hit a home run and drove in three runs, while Bob Herberger had three hits and two RBIs.
Andrew Zunic drove in three runs and Jake Kucek two.
