Monumental helicopter
ELLSWORTH -- Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9571 has installed an AH-1S Cobra Helicopter outside its post home on Ellsworth Road, off U.S. Route 224, as a monument to all area veterans.
Robert Osthoff, Post 9571 quartermaster, said the total cost of the project will be about $8,000, which was raised primarily by community events. He said the E & amp;L Welding Co. and Ray Shaffer Construction Co. were instrumental in transporting and placing the aircraft and erecting the pedestal. A dedication ceremony is being planned for September, Osthoff said.
Osthoff said a helicopter was chosen as a monument because it is symbolic of the Vietnam War, in which many of Post 9571's members fought.
