Blast of brass: The soulful sounds of Tower of Power band will be heard Aug. 29 at Holiday Inn MetroPlex, off Belmont Avenue, Liberty. Tickets are on sale at Hubbard Music, 51 N. Main St., Hubbard, and will be available at Ticketmaster outlets ( Tower of Power's roots reach back to the 1960s, when Emilio Castillo of Detroit moved to the San Francisco area and started a band called the Motowns. Tower of Power went on to record many albums of its own and open concerts for Creedence Clearwater Revival, Sly and the Family Stone and Santana. The band's prominent horn section has worked with a myriad of musicians, from balladeer Michael Bolton to jam band Phish.
The power of pop: The "KISS FM's Star Party" concert will feature pop singers JoJo, Kimberley Locke and Lloyd at 8 p.m. Sept. 10 at Odeon Concert Club, 1295 Old River Road, Cleveland. Buy tickets now through Ticketmaster; call (330) 747-1212. JoJo is the teenager with a summertime hit song titled "Leave." Locke is a former "American Idol" finalist with her first full-length album, "One Love," in stores now. Lloyd's new album, "Southside," debuted recently at No. 11 on Billboard's list of top albums.
