DOWNTOWN
Other news, notes
The property committee of downtown's redevelopment agency, Youngstown Central Area Community Improvement Corp., handled these items Wednesday:
Extended the deadline until Sept. 1 for P & amp;P Development to have its financing in place. The partnership is proposing a $1.7 million renovation of the Wells Building on West Federal Street into a mix of retail, office, residential and parking. Processing by Key Bank in Cleveland is taking longer than expected, CIC officials said.
Heard that construction of the Mahoning County Children Services Building is close to being on schedule. Vital work is on time. Lesser elements are slightly behind schedule. CIC has certified that steel used in the building is American made. CIC had trouble when a contractor used imported steel to build the George V. Voinovich Government Center a few years ago.
Heard that requests for proposals to build a courthouse on Federal Street for the 7th District Court of Appeals are being assembled. Bids are to be let after Labor Day. Contracts are to be awarded in October. Abatement and demolition would be done during the winter.
