Auburn (33-9) added three more runs in the fourth and led 6-1 after six innings.
Mahoning Valley (21-24) cut the deficit to 6-3 in the top of the seventh then surrendered four runs in the last of the inning to fall behind 10-3.
Finegan sparkles
Shortstop Brian Finegan had his best game of the season at the plate.
Finegan went 4-for-4 with two doubles, his first home run of the season and he drove in all three runs.
However, Argenis Reyes had his 23-game hitting streak snapped.
The streak was the longest in the New York-Penn League this year and the longest in Scrappers' history.
Entering the game Reyes was hitting .328, third best in the NYPL. He leads the league with 58 hits and is first with 16 stolen bases.
Mahoning Valley has now lost eight of its last 10 outings.
The Scrappers begin a three-game series against Tri-City (27-17) tonight at Eastwood Field.
