OHIO STATE HIGHWAY PATROL Two local troopers receive promotions, post transfers
COLUMBUS - The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced promotions of two local troopers Monday.
Trooper Brant A. Zemelka of the Canfield post was promoted to sergeant and will transfer to the Chardon post, where he will be assistant post commander. Sgt. Michael J. Marucci of the Lisbon post was promoted to lieutenant, and he will be post commander in Ravenna.
Zemelka joined the patrol in October 1997 and was commissioned the following May. He was assigned to the St. Clairsville Post, where he received a Superintendent's Citation of Merit in 2000 and Post Trooper of the Year in 2000 and 2001.
He was transferred to Canfield in July 2002. Zemelka graduated from Canfield High School in 1989. He, his wife and two sons live in Canfield.
Marucci joined the patrol in March 1987 as a cadet dispatcher at the Warren post. He then entered the academy and was commissioned in 1989. He initially was assigned to the Milan post and later served at the Warren and Canfield posts. Marucci received Warren District Trooper of the Year honors in 1997 and Canfield Post Trooper of the Year honors in 1996 and 1997.
In May 1998, he was promoted to sergeant and was appointed to the Toledo post where he served as assistant post commander. As sergeant, he served as assistant post commander at Warren and Lisbon posts. Marruci graduated in 1984 from Austintown Fitch High School.
He received a bachelor's degree in criminal justice in 1996 from Youngstown State University. He, his wife, and two daughters live in Greenford.
