NFL decisions

The New York Jets are going through what the Cincinnati Bengals just experienced, only with twice as many difficult decisions to make. Cincinnati opted to let linebacker Takeo Spikes leave for Buffalo, which gave him a six-year, $32 million deal. C3

Blue Jackets loseto Hurricanes

With just 35 first-period goals in 69 games, the Carolina Hurricanes almost didn't know how to react to a big early lead. The Hurricanes scored four goals in the opening 171/2 minutes, then had to hang on for a 6-5 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday night. C4
